University of Alberta – MULTI-PURPOSE AQUATIC LABORATORY
The approach used by the consultants for this mandate was to first assess the actual facility. This included investigating the quality and quantity of the water available to the researchers, and possible maintenance problems they may experience with either mechanical or experimental rooms. Then, based on the information provided by Dr. McKay on current and future research done at the facility and on individual preferences conveyed by researchers, the consultants worked on a series of recommendation regarding the redesign of the facility to best suit short term and long term plans.
More specifically, recommendations are made to improve the mechanical room, to modernise and optimise the facility, and to increase its innocuous quality. The proposal includes line sketches and ball prices of the fish rearing equipment for the short time plans (rooms Z-012, Z-018, Z-020, Z-022, Z-026, Z-019). The equipment suggested is custom-designed. to meet individual researcher’s requirements, while optimising available space.
